GA CENTRAL HOSTS THE GREATER ACCRA REGIONAL WORLD TUBERCULOSIS DAY COMMEMORATION

he Ga Central Municipal Health Directorate, in partnership with the Church of Pentecost – Home and Urban Mission (HUM), hosted the Greater Accra Regional World Tuberculosis Day commemoration at the Anyaa Polyclinic near the Anyaa Market, under the theme “YES! WE CAN END TB! Led by countries, powered by the people”.

The event brought together a wide range of dignitaries, including the Municipal Chief Executive for Ga Central, Hon. Emmanuel Adotey Allotey, the Member of Parliament for Anyaa Sowutwom, Hon. Elder Emmanuel Tobbin, Dr. Robert Amesiya (Regional Director of Health Services), Dr. Dominic Demateh Nuertey (Regional TB Coordinator), the Municipal Health Director, Dr. Edwina Appiah, the Municipal Education Director, Mr. Ibrahim Mumuni, Dr. Alhassan Hannifa (Superintendent of Anyaa Polyclinic).

Apostle Isaac Tetteh Judah (Odorkor Area Head) and Pastor Benjamin Offei Badu (National HUM Coordinator) from the Church of Pentecost, Assembly members and Students and staff of Odorgonno Senior High School, also graced the occasion.

Officials organized a float on the streets of Anyaa to create TB awareness through education, distribution of flyers while announcing the availability of free TB screening and X ray services at the event.

The Municipal Health Director, Dr. Edwina Appiah, addressed the general public to be mindful of their environment and report to the hospital if they feel unwell while the Regional Director of Health Services, Dr. Robert Amesiya, educated the audience about Tuberculosis.

The MP for Anyaa Sowutwom, Hon. Emmanuel Tobbin, spoke on the importance of raising awareness for early diagnosis and treatment, and stressed the need to reduce stigmatization of persons infected with TB.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Emmanuel Adotey Allotey, called for unity in the fight against TB and highlighted upcoming health projects in the municipality, including a three storey hospital at Ablekuma-Abease, aimed at providing healthcare solutions for both vulnerable individuals and future generations.

The World TB day was duly launched after a community advocacy segment, featuring a drama performed to educate the public and stakeholders on the importance of checking for TB when symptoms appear and undergoing regular checks when necessary.
