Regulation 12 of the Local Government (Departments of District Assemblies) (Commencement) Instrument, 2009 (L.I. 1961) mandates the unit to:
1. Facilitate the preparation and execution of the budget of the District Assembly;
2. Facilitate the preparation, collation and submission of annual estimates by other Departments, Agencies and Institutions in the District Assembly.
3. Assist in the translation of the medium-term programme of the district into the district investment programme;
4. Co-ordinate the organization of in-service-training programmes for the staff of the departments of District Assembly in budget preparation, financial management and dissemination of information on government financial policies;
5. Assist to verify and certify the status of district development projects before request for funds for payment are submitted to the relevant funding sources;
6. Facilitate the preparation of the rating schedules of the District Assembly;
7. Facilitate the collation of the statistical inputs that will enhance the preparation of the budget of the Assembly;
8. Assist in monitoring programmes and projects of the District Assembly as a measure to ensure economic utilization of budgetary resources.
