he Ministry of Food and Agriculture as part of its Planting for Food and Job (PFJ) initiative introduced the PFJ 2.0 model to aid farmers within various municipalities in the country.
The PFJ 2.0 model is aimed at ensuring self-sufficiency among Ghanaians. The advantage of the model is that no money is required hence, and the Aggregator is the financier of the project.
With the PFJ 2.0 model, the Extension Agents which represents Agriculture Officers in various Municipal Assemblies serve as liaisons between Farmers and the Aggregator. The Aggregator provides Agricultural Mechanization Service (AMSEC) and irrigational services to the farmer.
On 14th March, 2024, Fortes Commodities Limited, an organization that manufactures organic fertilizers introduced their new product, the Woprofert organic fertilizer to the department. The product is certified by the Organic Material Review Institute.
Woprofert is a fertilizer made from sterilized chicken manure. The positive implications of the usage of woprofert in farming includes; improving water retention capacity of soils, enhancing and maximizing nutrients uptake efficiency of plants and boosting crop yield by 20-25%. Samples of the product were given to the department to test its efficiency.
The department presented tablets to its staff. The tablets are to be used for the registration of farmers in the Municipality and keeping their database including the size of the farmland, farmland location and personal details of the farmer.
