Homowo, meaning ‘‘hooting at hunger’’ is an annual Ga festival celebrated to commemorate the day our ancestors became victorious over hunger, hooted at it and ridiculed it with songs amidst dancing. Homowo which is celebrated every year is aimed at bringing peace and unity amongst the Gas and Ga Dangbes.
As the Ga community prepare to celebrate this year’s Homowo festivities, the Municipal Chief Executive of Ga Central Municipal Assembly, Hon. Mohammed Bashiru Kamara with the support of the Municipal Coordinating Director, John Owusu Donkor and some Heads of Department paid homage to the traditional councils within the municipality by donating some items which was received by Marian Nana Ama Essien, the Head of Culture and Tourism department on behalf of the Chiefs.


The donation exercise took place at the forecourt of the Municipal Assembly on Thursday, August 17th, 2023, and items donated were maize, palm oil, drinks, water and schnapps to support in the celebrations.
During the donation, the MCE, Hon. Bashiru Kamara expressed joy in doing the annual ritual of donating items for the festive celebrations. He said, donating of these items is the Assembly’s way of contributing its quota towards the upcoming Homowo festival.
Hon. Bashiru wished all Chiefs and stool heads in the municipality well during this year’s festive season.
Speaking on behalf of the Chiefs, the Head of Culture and Tourism, Marian Nana Ama Essien expressed gratitude to the Hon. Chief Executive and the Assembly at large for having them in mind during this festivity and pledged to make sure the food items gets to the various Chiefs.
Madam Marian also said the donation will help cut down cost of food items which would have been purchased by the Chiefs for their families during the festivities.
