The Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) project aims to eliminate incidence of solid waste tipping into water ways. Thus eliminating obstructions that impede the free flow of storm water in drains thereby minimizing flooding.

The Ga Central Municipal Assembly (GCMA) is one of the 17 GARID Metropolitan and Municipal Assemblies (MMAs) charged with the task of conducting four (4) clean-up exercises and awareness creation for attitudinal change activities before the end of first quarter 2024. The program is a collaboration between the Ministry of sanitation and water resources and GARID to Support MMDAs by post financing the four (4) exercises with GHC 60,000per municipality.

The Ga Central Municipal Assembly organized the first exercise from 26th February to 1st March 2024 at Santa Maria. Not forgetting the Hon Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD).

The weeklong activities included sensitization by environmental Health officers to create awareness about the negative effects of indiscriminate disposal of solid waste, poor drain maintenance and the role of every citizen to safeguard the environment to minimize the incidence of flooding; sensitization with information van; distribution of fliers with behavioural change messages and pasting of “stop the floods” posters at vantage points.

The focal activity, clean-up exercise came off on Friday 1 March 2024. The exercise started at exactly 6am from Gigga Junction through the principal streets of Santa Maria ending at Jah Love. The exercise was successful at the end with an estimated number of five hundred and seventy nine participating.

"Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty. A nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people. The cost of freedom is always high"

"Geography has made us neighbors. History has made us friends. Economics has made us partners, and necessity has made us allies. Those whom God has so joined together, let no man put asunder. A nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people. The cost of freedom is always high"
