CLEAN-UP EXERCISE AT SOWUTUOM GCMA LANE ON 29TH SEPTEMBER, 2023

The Environmental Health Unit of the Ga Central Municipal Assembly (GCMA) understands the significance of sanitation and organized a cleanup exercise along the GCMA Road on September 29th, 2023. This report highlights the details and outcomes of this exercise, which was carried out to mitigate flooding and improve the overall well-being of the community.

CLEAN-UP EXERCISE
The clean-up exercise was a vital component of the Greater Accra Integrated Development (GARID) Project, aimed at clearing the area to prevent flooding during the rainy season. Heavy flooding had been a recurring issue on this road, causing damage and inconvenience to residents. To address this concern, the unit recruited people to desilt the drains and clear the area of weeds.
The cleanup exercise took place on September 29th, 2023, commencing at 10:22 am and concluding on September 30th, 2023. A total of 12 individuals were recruited to carry out the task.
Desilting works was carried out to remove accumulated silt and debris from the drains. Clearing the drains was important to prevent waterlogging and flooding during the rainy season.
In addition to desilting the drains, the team also cleared the road and its surroundings of overgrown weeds. The exercise enhanced the overall aesthetic appeal of the area but also minimized the risk of flooding, as clogged drains and overgrown vegetation often exacerbate the problem.

CONCLUSION
By effectively desilting the drains and clearing the area of weeds, the likelihood of heavy flooding on during the rainy season has been dramatically reduced. The cleanup exercise also significantly improved the appearance of the area, making it more pleasant and welcoming to residents and visitors alike.
The successful completion of this clean-up exercise significantly improved the sanitation situation of the area.
