THE DIRECTOR FOR EDUCATION DELIVERING AN OPENING ADDRESS
Ga Central Municipal Assembly marks Ghana’s 67th Independence Day on Wednesday, 6th March 2024 with a grand parade amid cultural displays.
The event, themed “Our Democracy, Our Pride” took place on the newly constructed astroturf sports facility located at Antieku within the Ga Central Municipality.
The ceremony had in attendance the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Ambrose Tsegah, the Presiding Member, Hon. Michael Acquah, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. John Owusu Koranteng, Director for Education, Mrs. Adiza Tessah, New Patriotic Party Paliamentary Candidate for Anyaa Sowutuom, Hon. Emmanuel Tobbin, Former Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Mohammed Bashiru Kamara, A.S.P Mr. Frederick Tawiah Oppong ( Police Commander, Sowutuom), Dr. Emmanuel Lamptey, Former M.C.E, P.O. Nana Yaw Nkum( Fire Service Officer, Sowutuom), PO3 Mr. Quaye ( Fire Service Officer), Mr Patrick Mensah ( Head Master, Odorgonno Senior High School).
The commemoration of Ghana’s 67th Independence was particularly vibrant featuring, 442students from 18 public and basic schools and 122 officers and teachers drawn from the Municipal Education Office and schools within the Ga Central Municipality.

ODORGONNO SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL MARCHING IN EXCITEMENT
The Cadet contingents and schools that participated in the parade included, Holy Child School, Rect Academy, Odorgonno Model School, Odorgonno Senior High School, Platinum Montessori School, Anglican Justin 4 Basic School, Abeka Motorway Basic School, Salvation Army School, Heavens Joy Academy, St Roses Preparatory School, Ebenezer Memorial School, and Albasah Senior High.
The ceremony started with an opening address from the Municipal Director for Education, Mrs. Adiza Tessah who spoke on the theme for this year’s celebration.
HON. AMBROSE TSEGAH INSPECTING THE PARADE
In her address, she highlighted on the efforts made by our forefathers to ensure we enjoy the freedom we have today. She stated that “Democracy is not a destination but a journey” hence, encouraging Ghanians to take action to promote democracy now and for future generation.
Mrs.Adizah Tessah in her speech, expressed the endeavours of the municipal assembly to award students who excell in the Basic Education Certificate Examination(B.E.C.E) as a means of motivation to students in the municipality. And also entreated the assembly to expand various infrastructures in schools within the municipality.
She ended her speech by encouraging all present to inculcate the spirit of patriotism in all their endeavors.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon Ambrose Tsegah in his address deemed it a great honor to be part of this august occasion and thanked his Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana for appointing him as the new MCE for Ga Central Municipal Assembly and honorable Assembly members for the confirmation and giving him the mandate to serve the Assembly.

Hon MCE advised Ghanaians to not only see Independence anniversary parades as an occasion for merry making alone, but as an event for sober reflection on the principles that characterized the independence struggles and lessons thereof.
He recounted on how Ghana’s political achievements has been the hope of African countries with all its efforts in promoting peace and democracy.
Again, Hon. Tsegah stated how past government and the current government have put measures in place to promote democracy by ensuring active public participation in decision making process,freedom of expression,freedom of the press and the existence of rule of law.
In addition, Hon. Ambrose Tsegah said, what is required of all of us as Ghanaians is to work together, rekindle our spirit of patriotism, making sacrifices for our motherland Ghana and advancing our democracy.
Hon. MCE urged Ghanaians across the country, both male and female, young and old, rich and poor to join hands to build a stronger and bigger Ghana for us all.
As part of the celebration, the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Tsegah took the opportunity to award the best schools and students who excelled in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (B.E.C.E) in the year 2021 and 2022 within the Ga Central Municipality. The award for the best schools were given to Plantinum Montessori school and Odorgonno model school.
